The Final Reveal: A Sophisticated Ensuite Bathroom

By Sabrina @pinklilnotebook · On May 8, 2014

SophisticatedEnsuite_PLN

Welcome to the final episode of the One Room Challenge!

It’s been a crazy six weeks full of many decisions, layers of dust, multiple sighs, triumphant highs, lots of laughs, unexpected delays and many all-nighters with the hubby.

I’d be totally lying right now, if I said I didn’t enjoy the whole process.

Décor addict here, remember!

I began this ORC series with my drabby looking master ensuite.  Although this original bathroom had fairly good bones, it lacked MAJOR style.

The plan was to create something fresh, simple and sophisticated.  To achieve this spa-like look, I chose to go with a colour palette full of sparkling whites & neutral hues.

So without further ado, let’s get started shall we!

As soon as you walk into this master ensuite, you are greeted with one of my favourite focal points, my feature wall! This DIY faux wainscoting is one of the easiest and least expensive projects of them all.

The tile floor was ripped out completely and replaced with polished porcelain tile.  Both the feature wall and the new floors created an instant transformation in this small space.

bathroomreveal5_PLN

The new toilet sits pretty underneath my male and female vase signs that I purchased 3 years ago from CB2.  I totally forgot I had these babies and I’m excited they are finally up.

The vanity got a new makeover with a gorgeous colour from PARA Paints (Evening in Paris, P5219-44). Although we had plans to convert this countertop to a white marble double sink, it just didn’t fit in our ORC time schedule. This will be another upcoming project.

The frame around the mirror was another DIY that is extremely simple to do.  More on this and other DIY’s next week!

As you may recall, I did not replace the pink tile around the tub nor our shower stall.  Instead I opted for an easier solution, tile paint!

After a little online research and many positive reviews, I decided to use Rust-Oleum Tile Transformation kit. (I will be sharing a full review next week as well.)

So what do you think? Major improvement?!

Stay tune for next week’s 2-part post where I will share all the behind the scene chaos + DIY projects + my source list.

Special thanks to all who followed along on this fun journey and to Linda for being a super ORC host!

One more thing, do not forget to check out the rest of the final “one room” reveals. All the creativity is just insane 🙂

Thanks Meredith! I’m happy with the way the paint turned out on the tile! You should give it a try, It’s a day and night difference. As for the “lots of laughs” it usually the point I reach when I’m so tired that everything becomes funny!

Oh my goodness, Sabrina. This looks seriously so amazing! I love that you painted the tile. I did the same thing in out basement washroom (which was tiled all over, floor to ceiling) and it made such a huge difference, not to mention it holds up extremely well!!! Can’t wait to see all of your DIY details!

Beautiful makeover! Looks so relaxing! I had no idea there was such a thing as tile paint! I hate the tile in my shower, but didn’t want to do a reno. Now there’s an option I could totally do! Can’t wait to read your review on the product.

Wow! What a transformation! What did your bathroom vanity look like “Before”.?
The more I see people paint their existing vanities, the more I’m thinking along those lines in my main bathroom where the bathtub is. We’ve lived here 9 years and we are shower people, only used bathtub less than 6 times and it was for soaking tired muscles. The white subway tile is in great shape and is tiled 2/3 of the way up. Have seen on pinterest where people painted their old tile. Will have to check that out again. I think I bookmarked it. Will read back over this posting to see how you did it. Great job!

Hi Betty! The vanity was dark wood. Painting it was a quick and easy way to update! It sounds like you main bath is back in style. I would leave the white subway tiles as they are. Almost every bathroom reno I see online uses white subway tile.

Thanks so much! The tile paint was very easy to work with but the fumes are very strong. You must wear some sort of face mask so you’re not inhaling it. The results are totally worth it!
