Tips for Creating a Holiday Photo Card

By Sabrina @pinklilnotebook · On December 1, 2016

Excitement surrounds this time of year and with a growing family of my own, it’s time to begin some annual Christmas traditions.  To start off, I’ve created our very first official family holiday card!

I’m thrilled to team up with Minted this holiday season.  I spent some serious time browsing their card collection before choosing this design, Golden Christmas Foil-Press by Julia Hall. I customized everything right down to the colour of foil (gold), to the paper quality (DoubleThick), to the my personal message. But the best part! All their holiday cards come with matching envelope designs and free recipient addressing.

Of course, with any successful holiday photo card, a little planning must take place prior to your order. Here are my four best tips to help make photographing and ordering a breeze!

Tips for Creating a Holiday Photo Card

Before taking photos, consider card design first.  This well help you figure out the orientation of the photo you’ll need (landscape or portrait). It will also help you out with photo composition. For instance, whether you want text over the image, under the image and so on. You’ll be able to judge ahead of time the positioning of people and/or objects in your photos.

Think about details. Put some thought into what you and your family will wear (solid colour clothing always works best), whether or not you want to use props, and what setting you want take your pictures in. If you’re stumped for ideas, do a quick search on Pinterest to get your creativity flowing.

Don’t feel obliged to go with the classic Christmas colour scheme of red and green. It’s  on-trend this season to use non-traditional colours for your holiday card like midnight blues, graphic black & white, botanical wreaths, and glittery foil.

Pay attention to the quality of your photo card. Minted’s high-quality paper and printing not only give a luxurious look and feel but will stand the test of time. Keep a holiday card for yourself and display your collection each season, it’s a fun way to watch your family grow.
