The Chandelier Saga

By Sabrina @pinklilnotebook · On April 12, 2013

I’ve once heard someone refer to lighting as the “jewellery” of a home.  And at that exact moment, two thoughts popped into my head, one: “OMG that’s so true” and two: “geez, why can’t I come up with a brilliant saying like that?!”  Since that very day, I have learned to appreciate the art of lighting, not only in its aesthetics, but the importance of highlights and shadows it creates in a room (which is a whole other blog on its own).

So back to the point of this blog.  I always wanted a chandelier!  My favourite use of chandeliers is in non-traditional places like the bathrooms, closets and kitchens.  It’s such a “pretty” touch.  So I came up with the bright idea to put a chandelier with lots of dangling crystals in my home office.  Something that will match my new desk hardware!

Of course, I’ve already blew my entire budget for this home office…. and noo, it wasn’t an impulsive purchase on a carpet and chair at one of my fav stores (oops!).  So as a girl in need of a pretty chandelier, I had to come up with a creative way to get it at a fraction of the retail price.  Hello thrift store.

Meet my 1980 chandelier.  This shiny gold is definitely outdated (at least for my taste) but I figured I could solve that by paint and lots of crystals.

I’m not gonna lie, I was a little apprehensive to buy this thing.  To tell you the truth, I had no idea what I was even looking for to make sure it was in working condition.  Yup, at $4.99, I thought I take my chances.  I’ll apologize in advance, there’s a small but huge possibility this project will flunk when it comes time to flip the switch; however, my fingers are crossed and I hope to fix this baby up!

Until next week . . .
