Hello 2014!
Call me crazy but January tends to be one of my favourite months. AND I can tell you right now, it has absolutely nothing to do with our cold Canadian winters (damn you frigid temperatures). But it has everything to do with the new year and a fresh start!
First off, I’m super excited to toss my used and abused 2013 planner away and swap it for a brand spanking new 2014, fresh smelling, crisp page planner. New book, new smell—don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about :S
Secondly, after 12 months of writing “2013” in the date line, I love the fact that we get to switch up one digit. Just a wee-bit of a “fluxophilia” (the need for constant change), can you tell?
Third, it’s the best time of year to set my goals (in a non-committal kind of way). Whatever works, right?! It’s just my way of setting a long list of goals without the overwhelming pressure to perform everything at a specific time (which… could sometimes result in discouragement if not completed. We don’t want that!). I learned over the years that your goals have to change and evolve with you—just go with the flow. Majority of the time I usually follow through and complete many of my goals. Other times I just strike them out because I’m sick of seeing them on the list. I guess my system works for the most part.
So what will this year bring me? Er..well I’m not quite sure yet. I haven’t had the time to sit down and make my long list of goals for the year. BUT. I can tell you one thing. While I was sick during the holidays—watching everyone have fun—sitting in the corner with my tissue box—I had a lot of time to think. Okay I lie. I only thought about the month of January until I fell fast asleep.
But so far, here’s what I got! I’m starting off the new year with a big bang.
Update Number 1: I have a new PARA blog crew project on the way.
I’m helping my big bro & sister-in-law create a master bedroom retreat. Frustrated with the look of their current room, they came to me for some help. With the cutest 2 1/2 year old princess (she literally dresses like one, no joke) and another one on the way (woo-hoo for Auntie Sabby!), they are looking for a room they can unwind at the end of the night, a cozy place that whispers relaxation.
Buh bye builder beige, hello Silver Touch (PARA Paints, P5247-51)
The princess makes her appearance!
Update Number 2: Pink Little Notebook has a new face!
When I started this blog, I didn’t really put much thought into the look and feel of my website. I wasn’t really sure anyone would even look at it. Since PLN is about to hit a year old next month, I thought it would be the perfect time to design a new look and feel for this blog. I will be relaunching my website design next week (hopefully). I would love to hear all your thoughts on PLN’s new look.
Until next week!

LOVING the look of the Silver Touch! What a fantastic colour! Can’t wait to see the new blog look. 🙂
Thanks Tash! It’s definitely a bold colour yet very easy on the eyes. Can’t wait to share!
I love that color paint! We will be updating our master bedroom soon and I will definitely consider that color!
Hi Becky, it’s an amazing colour (even better in person!). You should check out the colours from Para Paints. They have a great selection for your master bedroom.
Yeah the colour really is great, far better in person. It’s one of those colours that doesn’t photograph that well I guess.
That is one of my tasks this year too! To create a retreat for my DH and I! Our bedroom has the furniture that I want but no paint or accessories!!
We are using the same furniture as well. We just added paint to the walls and new accessories and it looks like a brand new room. It’s amazing what a little colour can do for a room. Good luck with your makeover!
I always love cracking open a new planner/calendar for the year too! I agree, it’s a fresh start, ready to go. And, living in Maine, I hear you on the frigid temperatures. BLAH! lol
I’m glad you share the same feeling! Stay warm Jessica! thanks for the comment 🙂
What a doll you are to help out with the repainting/remodeling! I like January for the new start as well, and even though Im not in Canada, I am close (in the upper midwest) and commiserate about the temperatures!
Thanks Kim. It’s my way of repaying my brother back for helping me so much with this blog! Stay warm:)
I didn’t think I would, but I am absolutely in love with that color. We might be painting soon, lol 🙂
Thanks for the comment Bibi. Let me tell you not only does this colour look great during the day light, it looks amazing at night. It’s tough finding a great colour like that!
Hope you have a terrific 2014! I also like the beginning of the year. It is so full of possibilities. Just like autumn and the beginning of the new school year when we were kids. I still get excited in August, lol
The little princess is absolutely cute. And room is looking promising. I really want to see how it will be when everything is ready. Keep us posted!
I will definitely post a before and after reveal of this master bedroom. I hope you have an amazing 2014 as well. Thanks for the comment Joanna!
I love the paint color for the bedroom! And good luck with the redesign! I was actually using this very same theme before I switched to the theme I’m using now. I’m still not sold on the theme I have now and will probably be switching again soon.
Thanks for the comment Cyndi! Picking a colour is a tough choice. I hope everything works out for you. Keep me posted!
What a GREAT change. That grey is gorgeous. A perfect way to envelope the room and create a cozy retreat. Sounds like one of your easy new year projects might be baby-sitting too 😉
Thanks for the comment Meredith! The paint colour alone made a huge transformation in the room. I can’t wait to post before and after pictures. Also I’m super excited to meet baby number 2! Woo-hoo!
I love the color of the paint. Will you be posting the finished room? Happy New Year to you.
Hi Neva! Yes, I will be posting the before and after pictures of this bedroom, hopefully by the end of this month. Stay tuned! Happy New year to you:)
Oh I am lovin’ the new paint color. I tend to go for the warmer colors and this one is beautiful! Can’t wait to see the finished room if you plan to change anything else out. I plan on redoing our bedroom this year too so I need inspiration.
Hi Jenn, thanks for the comment! All the furniture will be the same. We are just changing the paint colour and accessories of the room. It’s definitely not a big job but a huge transformation! I will be sharing the reveal at the end of the month. Stay tuned!
Good luck on your new projects. BEst of wishes.
Thank you Debi!
When we moved I wanted to paint our walls of the house that colour exactly. My husband said it was too cold. Rrrrrr….. instead I get to look at beige. Boring! I much prefer the grey.
It is a bold colour and sometimes hard to visualize on your walls but it’s definitely worth the risk. My brother wasn’t to keen on this paint either but after seeing it up on the walls, he loved it! Silver Touch has added more of a warm feeling to their bedroom vs the beige they had before. Start with a small room and paint it grey. Your husband might end up really liking it too!
I love that grey paint, beautiful! I also adore a beautiful planner, and when they are crisp and new there is something very so perfect about them. A year of possibility. Finally, pihnklittlenotebook looks lovely! I like the bright crisp theme of the blog.
Thanks so much for the comment Rita!
I love that beautiful color! Wow! It’s striking!
Thanks Katherine!
It takes me a couple of times to remember to change that one digit when the new year comes in…but I do look forward to what the year brings.
I won’t lie sometimes that happens to me too! Hope 2014 brings you much happiness and joy!
Sabrina, i agree 100% with you. Planning for future and looking back at what you done / achieved in last year is most important and to do that in January is the right time, so you are not crazy at all by liking this beautiful month.
Thanks for the comment! It is definitely a nice feeling to look back and plan ahead. It keeps your motivation alive!
Wow love that color . enhances the beauty of that bedroom.. Great Selection!!!
Thanks for sharing
That’s what my need to have change is called…lol! I can’t wait to see your new look, although I think this one is very nice!
This is all so exciting! Both the new bedroom and the peek at the facelift look so promising and pretty! I’m happy for you!
Awesome! I can’t wait to see the project reveal and of course, the website redesign. Sounds like some exciting changes! All the best in 2014! 🙂
Hey Sabrina! That is such a beautiful color! Looking modern and nice. Best luck for a productive new year! 🙂
I love getting to start new with a new planner! It is one of my favorite things! Also, the color you painted those walls are gorgeous! Thanks for sharing!
I love the new color! Adding more drama to the wall was the white doors and ceiling. Its such a nice change from the standard builders colors like pale yellow, beige and light green. Thank you for sharing!
Fresh smelling and crisp page planner – I absolutely know what you’re talking about – 🙂 I think I need one too! Love the new paint of the bedroom looks cozy indeed! Wish you all the best, let’s all be more productive this 2014! 😉
