Taking a short break from our kitchen makeover, I wanted to share another edition of Inside Look! Today I’m featuring one of my design crushes, Decor Gold. Once you take a look at this home, you’ll know why I love it so much. Please welcome Jennifer!
“It all began a little more than 18 months ago. Or should I say, began again? I knew I always wanted to continue my passion for interior design but I wasn’t sure exactly how and by which medium.”
“Having obtained an interior design degree from Oklahoma State University, my love of all things decor has never wavered. After running a successful designer painting business from 1997-2007, my desire to begin my own business again began increasing. But, what method would be the best fit? I knew I did not want to merely focus on remodels and the like. Then I found Instagram and @decorgold was born. The rest, as they say, was history.”
“Hi. My name is Jennifer and I live in a suburb just north of Houston, TX with my husband Tony and our four golden retrievers: Riley, Haley, Max and Aubrey. We built our home some 3.5 years ago on 1/3 of an acre which backs to a forest protected by a neighborhood golf course.”
“We both fell in love with our single level home when we saw it simply as a floor plan on a sheet of paper. Our main requirements were a large, open concept kitchen and family room perfect for gatherings. We felt it would be ideal for entertaining family and friends as we are prone to do from time to time.”
“If I were forced to choose a favorite room in our home, I would select our dining room. It is not overly large. It is very well lit and offers an elegance while being comfortable.”
“I was always drawn to photography from an artistic point of view. So, one Christmas, Tony decided to surprise me with a “serious” camera. You know, the kind that comes with a bag for lenses, etc. This was several years ago. That camera sat in it’s bag for years. To say I was a bit intimidated by it would be an understatement. Back to Instagram. What began as a quest to capture the best iPhone pictures I could quickly turned into a bit more. Now, I am blessed to be focused on aperture, f-stops and lighting kits.”
“Most recently I was able to put all of this to use in The One Room Challenge. In essence, I completely made-over a room within our home. I chose our guest bedroom and transformed it from a generic, drab afterthought of a room into an eclectic, warm inviting space.”
“While I would not label my design style within a specific specialty, my main objective is to offer a collected look where the pieces and items that I like work seamlessly together. I felt the end result of this experience was spot on in this regard. Now, there was no way I could have done this alone. I had numerous brands which were so giving and helpful. It would not have been possible were it not for their generosity. Managing this process reminded me of the complexities involved when a family is ready to make-over their entire home. It also reminded why I am more dedicated than ever to hopefully continuing to inspire others via @decorgold and decorgolddesigns.com. I just adore the decor industry and this online community.”
