One Room Challenge Week 2: Project Nursery

By Sabrina @pinklilnotebook · On April 13, 2016

In case you haven’t heard, I’m joining the Spring edition of the One Room Challenge! I have six weeks to complete one space and share my progress with you all.  I love joining this challenge because not only does it give me the extra kick I need to get things done but right now, I need that extra boost more than ever with a newborn in the picture.

For this challenge, I decided to finish baby Olivia’s nursery.  I started this space just before she was born—to be exact, 2 weeks before! As you recall from my first nursery post, walls are painted and accent wall is complete with this fun wallpaper.

At the time, we didn’t know the sex of the baby so I was going for a gender-neutral, nature-inspired space. You can view the plan here.  Although I tend to keep the concept somewhat the same, now that we have a baby girl, I will be adding some glamorous feminine touches to the plan.

This week is all about her change station.  I purchased Olivia’s dresser from Wayfair.  I wanted to create a gallery wall  above her dresser but I didn’t want to do the whole typical framed art work thing. So I searched for unique shelving options that I could randomly place on the wall that were both graphic and woodsy-looking.  I came across this tutorial for triangle shelves and instantly loved the idea.

So I got hubby to re-created the shelves for me using 1 x 4″ pine wood.

Using Minwax staining cloths, we finished the shelves in a natural oak finish.

Finding the right layout is hard to eyeball so I created paper templates to help me visualize the grouping a little better on the wall.

Of course, I changed it about a million times before I was happy with the set up.

I will eventually fill the shelves with cute little items for Olivia but until that happens, Mr. Rabbit is the only one available for photos right now.

Is there a name for the dresser or a specific wood? I know it comes from Wayfair!
